Product23 is my recording studio business in conjunction with my business partner Simon Mauger.
We are based just outside of Frome, Somerset. The studio is incredible well equipped and is situated in a seriously nice part of the world. We have just bought a stack of new quipment that is to die for. Namely a very nice new 24 channel Toft ATB analogue mixing desk and a pair of PMC TB2A active studio monitor speakers. These have to be heard to be believed. They incorporate Flying Mole active amplifiers for crystal clear reproduction.
Speakers ...
People often ask questions about studio monitors and it can be quite a confusing subject. What a consumer calls a good speaker is utterly different to what an engineer will call a good speaker. In a studio environment you don't want 'good speakers' you want 'accurate speakers'. The two tasks are completely different. When your producing a final mix of something you don't want the speakers infusing their own interpretation of the signal your working on, you want to be able to deal with the signal itself with a 'transparent' view on that signal. Most speakers in the consumer market colour the sound to make you go 'Ooooh that sounds nice doesn't it ... '
Using a set of monitors like the PMC's you'd be very surprised to hear some of your favourite records through them ... some major albums sound perfectly horrid through a set of speakers like these as they are being more faithful to the contents of the CD.
