This weekend with the Savage has been great! Running beautifully, even getting some wheelie's now! The engine is really starting to perform. Until ... just starting it for the last tank of fuel today and pull start imploded ... well broke actually. The cord is now flapping around like a limp snake, the spring has obviously gone and I must admit that in my excitement I was probably being a bit rough with it.
So when I got home I pulled the engine out and started cleaning it and checking for part numbers and so on in order to get a new one ordered (along with bits to repair the old one) and a few other odds and ends I need ... then I noticed it ...

Can you see it yet? I think the pull start dying was a blessing in disguise really!!! Another tank might have been more damaging that I care to think about!

Still not spotted it?
Here's a clue!

After taking the engine out and having a look I noticed this. My pull start failing has probably saved me having more troubles with a replacement clutch bell and spur gear and who know what else might have happened if this had failed at full throttle.

You can see the actual damage to the brass washer on the crankshaft a bit clearer in this image.

Unbelievably you can actually see a section on the exhaust pipe where all the brass particles have broken away from the brass washer and landed on the surface of the pipe, they actually wont clean off either!

Hmm ... me need some new parts ...
